Name: Imriel de la Courcel Door: Door Pass. Canon: Kushiel's Legacy Canon Point: While in Rus, hunting the murderer of Dorelei Age: 24 Appearance: Dark hair, blue eyes, 6'4. I'm using Sebastian Stan for a PB but I would say he only has a passing resemblance to Bucky and PB may change if I find a better one. History: here. CR AU (Optional): n/a Personality: Intelligence: Imriel is highly intelligent, able to speak his native language (essentially the real world's version of French) as well as Alban (a Celtic language), and Caerdicci (Latin). He is shown to quickly learn how to do things after only being shown a few times and has an aptitude for politics that may be inherited from his natural mother but was certainly encouraged and shaped by his foster mother, Phedre. He is well-rounded and while he is not quite as good an athlete as a scholar, he is able to learn various forms of combat in quick study, showing a kinesthetic intelligence in addition to his traditional intelligence. He is well spoken and skilled in what is his canon's equivalent of debate in the Socratic method (studied in university) but also somewhat streetwise as well so he isn't easily tricked in games of confidence or prone to being scammed/taken advantage of without an external factor such as physical incapacity affecting the outcome of such interactions. He is typically a curious person, always seeking out new knowledge and new ways to broaden his horizons. Guilty: Imriel has spent his entire life guilty for his various "sins" - his parents are traitors to the crown so he has "inherited" their treason, his nature as a scion of Kushiel means he has a deep, ingrained drive to be a hard Dominant in sexual encounters but he was formerly abused and does not want to abuse someone else even if it's consensual, he's guilty that he loves the wrong person and he's guilty that this love kills his own wife. Imriel takes the guilt of everything upon his shoulders and uses it as armor to keep people away from him. He often says to himself, "I want to be good" and when he fails to live up to this self-imposed standard, he punishes himself for it even if others around him suffer as a consequence, even if the people he's hurting the most are the ones that he loves the best. Imriel's guilty conscience about loving Sidonie, the rightful heir of his country (and whom he feels is better than his "traitor's blood) prevents him from standing up against an arranged marriage that ultimately results in the death of an innocent woman. It prevents him from seeking a relationship with his birth mother even though she greatly desires one and it prevents him, ultimately, from being happy with simply who he is and not who he appears to be to other people. Impulsivity: Imriel has a tendency to make impulsive decisions without thinking through the consequences for himself. Part of it is because he wants to be a hero in order to meet his self-assigned standard of being "good" but part of it is simply because he is young and male and therefore thinks he's somewhat invincible. He makes an impulsive decision to leave court and go to university - something a prince would never need to do - solely because he's bored of court and the petty gossips and intrigue that happen there. While at university, he makes another impulsive decision to have an affair with a married woman while developing a friendship with her husband at the same time; Imriel is reckless enough not to care if he gets caught or not and imagines he'll deal with the consequences if it ever becomes an issue. It isn't the first time he's reckless either, considering he also engages in an affair with Sidonie in spite of being expressly forbidden from it and his choice to do so results in him being married off in a political marriage to Dorelei of Alba. Dorelei is ultimately assassinated by a group of people who are tired of Terre d'Ange meddling in Alban politics. And, if that weren't enough, he then vows revenge on his wife's murderer and tracks him across the continent, through hostile countries and even more hostile weather, in order to kill him in revenge without thought about his own life or his importance as a prince in his own country. Pride: Imriel has a lot of pride in his nationality and a tendency to think that other places and people of the world are fine but nothing is as good as Terre d'Ange. He thinks himself to be an incredibly handsome man, even among the beautiful people of his country, and thinks his heritage makes him better than others because he is descended from one of Elua's Companions - these serve as gods in his canon. His pride also contributes to his recklessness because he thinks that because he is so good at so many things that he is nigh upon invincible when coming across an opponent. He learned to fight from the best swordsman in Terre d'Ange, after all, so throwing himself into the midst of a city siege should be nothing, right? There is a benefit of pride and confidence, certainly, but there are times when Imriel pushes it past beneficial into snobbery and needs to be checked. Powers and Abilities: Imriel is a polyglot and skilled with a one-handed sword and with daggers. He's also a skilled horse rider. Inventory: Samples: here. |
